4 Winter Exercises that Will Keep You Fit
Winter is always the laziest time of year. Most people go into hibernation and barely leave their homes. The worst part about people being lazy and stuck in their homes is that they tend to eat awful food more often and sit on the couch while doing it. This combination makes for a disastrous few months on your health. If you’re looking for ways to beat the lazy right out of your system, and stay healthy all at the same time, the exercises you’ll find below are just what you need.
1. High Intensity Interval Training
The beauty about this exercise is that it can be done right in your own home, without the need to much time. The idea behind this exercise is that you’ll be burning more calories doing extremely strenuous activity in a short time rather than just jogging at the same speed for 30 minutes. In only about 15 minutes or so, you’ll be burning more calories than if you just jogged. Sounds like crazy news stories, but it totally works.
Start off slow with some jogging for a minute, then once you’re warmed up, run like a madman for two straight minutes. Keep doing this pattern for 15 minutes and you’re all done! You’ll be exhausted, but you’ll also be super healthy in no time. It works.
Swimming? During winter? Are you nuts?
Well, don’t swim outside obviously, but you can easily find a nice indoor pool that is heated and extremely comfortable. Swimming laps in a pool is just about one of the best exercises you can possibly do. Not only does it work your muscles like you wouldn’t believe, it’s an unbelievable cardio exercise, even better than running. Your first time will probably be exhausting after only a few laps, but as you get more acclimated to doing laps, you’ll eventually be doing this for an hour straight if you want.
The best part about this exercise is that it’s fun, too!
3. Ice Skating
Who doesn’t love ice skating? While this might not be the cheapest way to stay healthy, it’s definitely one of the most enjoyable. Your local ice rink might offer you some sort of incentive if you sign up for an extended period of time, so if you ask around, I’m sure you’ll find a great deal. If not, you could also take your chances on a frozen lake!
This is another exercise that is fun and exciting, and doesn’t even seem like a workout because of this. Try it out!
4. Squats and Deadlifts
These two workouts are amazingly good at keeping your entire body in shape. While you need to do more to achieve favorable results, these two workouts are a great start. Both do a great job at working your core, legs, arms, and just about anything else you can think of. Even if you don’t go to a gym, you can find ways in your home to do these. Maybe use a heavy backpack for the squats and deadlifts.
These winter exercises will keep your lazy butt in shape until spring rolls around. Get out there and be healthy!
